Worship: Form and Characteristics of Orthodox Worship
Christ the Pantocrator, Ruler of All
O Come, let us worship and bow down before Christ, our King and God.
O Come, let us worship and bow down to Christ Himself, our King and God.
This invitation marks the beginning of each day for the Orthodox Church. It comes from the office of Vespers, and it expresses the attitude which is at the heart of Orthodoxy. The Worship of God - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, - is fundamental to the life and spirit of the Orthodox Church. Orthodox Christian Worship involves all of our 5 senses. With incense, candles, timeless sacred hymns, beautiful iconography depicting the Gospel, the Holy Gifts of sanctified bread and wine and Proskinisis- bowing to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Weekly worship is on Sunday mornings, with other services during the week for special feast days commemorating events in the life of Christ and the Theotokos, Mother of God.
